MS Dhoni Set for Potential Comeback as CSK and MI Battle for Survival in IPL 2026 Playoff Race
Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians face a must-win IPL 2026 clash as both teams fight to stay in playoff contention. All eyes are on MS Dhoni’s potential return after a calf injury. Suresh Raina hints at his comeback, while coach Michael Hussey provides cautious updates on his recovery and match readiness.
Amid this intense scenario, all attention is focused on whether Mahendra Singh Dhoni will return to action in today’s crucial fixture. According to former CSK stalwart and “Mr. IPL” Suresh Raina, Dhoni is expected to feature in the match, which would mark his first appearance of the season if confirmed.
However, Chennai Super Kings batting coach Michael Hussey remained non-committal on Dhoni’s participation during the pre-match press conference. Hussey confirmed that Dhoni is recovering from a calf injury sustained prior to the start of the season, which had sidelined him for the past three weeks. He also emphasized that Dhoni’s rehabilitation has included significant work on his running speed between the wickets.
“Hopefully, he will return as soon as possible. I am not sure whether it will be tomorrow or perhaps the next match, but his recovery is progressing very well. I know he has been working on improving his running speed, which was probably the most challenging aspect,” Hussey said.
He further added that while there is confidence in Dhoni’s batting and wicketkeeping abilities, the primary concern has been ensuring his ability to run effectively, particularly in the latter stages of an innings when quick singles and doubles become crucial. “As soon as he has full confidence in his calf, I am sure he will give the green signal to play. At the moment, we are following his lead. I believe the entire Chennai camp is waiting,” Hussey stated.
Hussey also revealed that Dhoni has not been present in the dugout on match days, having chosen to stay away from the team environment to avoid distractions. He noted that some franchises prefer players to remain at the team hotel due to squad size restrictions, which allow only 18 to 20 players in the dressing room.
The final decision on Dhoni’s participation remains pending, but anticipation continues to build as CSK fans await clarity on whether the legendary wicketkeeper-batter will take the field in what could be a decisive match in their fading playoff campaign.
